Kristine Dandavino - Mezzo-Soprano
Musician/Band
We sing to share stories, experiences, and visions. For almost 40 years, I have been creating music. To music! To art! To creativity!
Mezzo-soprano Kristine Dandavino graduated from the University of Ottawa where she pursued vocal and piano studies simultaneously. Graced with a flexible and wide-ranging instrument, Kristine has explored and been engaged to sing both mezzo-soprano and soprano repertoire throughout her career. Highlights include Azucena in Verdi's Il Trovatore with Opera York, a "vivid portrayal" of Chimène in the rarely performed, Le Cid by Massenet (TOC), Magda Sorel in Menotti's The Consul, Aunt Marsh from Adamo's Little Women, Dinah from Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti (TrypTych Opera), Ortrud from Wagner's Lohengrin, Santuzza from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Dido from Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Marguerite in Gounod's Faust (all with Opera by Request), Leonore in Beethoven's Fidelio (TOC) and the roles of Zuleika and First Nymph in the North American premier of Nikola Subic Zrinjski by Zajc with Opera Mississauga as well as Baba from Menotti's The Medium with Arts Orford Opera. The founder of Opera Oshawa and a passionate pedagogue, Kristine's voice is featured in Vocal Rescue: Rediscover the Beauty, Power, and Freedom in Your Singing by Lois Alba.
